At Green Choice, we make it simple; we only use organic carpet cleaning solutions that are certified by The Carpet & Rug Institute, Green Seal, and Environmental Choice. For example, many of our approved cleaning solutions contain naturally occurring enzyme-based cleansers including common table salt, antimicrobial salts, citric acid, and soda ash.
These substances are so safe that many of them are actually found in the foods we eat. Not only are they safe for use around family members of all ages, including pets, but the environmental impact is inconsequential when compared to conventional cleaners.

Here are just a few examples of common chemicals found in conventional carpet cleaning solutions that you should avoid if at all possible:
Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (aka 2-butoxyethanol): This chemical does not typically present a great health risk, but when exposed to heat, it can release toxic fumes that are harmful to breathe and cause damage to the nervous system.
Perchloroethylene (aka “perc”): An additive that causes dizziness, fatigue and nausea if ingested or inhaled. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also claims it causes kidney and liver damage.
Naphthalene – A solvent produced from coal tar. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it is toxic to the human central nervous system and a possible carcinogen.
