The majority of industrial carpet cleansers contain harmful chemicals. And even mild exposure to these chemicals can cause respiratory, throat, nose, and eye irritation, and headaches; some are even known to cause damage to the nervous system. And while having your carpets cleaned with these substances is typically safe under cold, well ventilated conditions, it is not always a guarantee.
It is true that there exist many chemical cleansers that area completely safe under prolonged exposure, but keeping track of thousands of common cleaning solutions is a daunting task. In fact, even with some common household carpet cleaning substances, prolonged exposure can cause various health related issues.

At GreenChoice, we make it simple; we only use organic carpet cleaning solutions that are certified by The Carpet & Rug Institute, Green Seal, and Environmental Choice. For example, many of our approved cleaning solutions contain naturally occurring enzyme-based cleansers including common table salt, antimicrobial salts, citric acid, and soda ash.
These substances are so safe that many of them are actually found in the foods we eat. Not only are they safe for use around family members of all ages, including pets, but the environmental impact is inconsequential when compared to conventional cleaners.

Here are just a few examples of common chemicals found in conventional carpet cleaning solutions that you should avoid if at all possible:
Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (aka 2-butoxyethanol): This chemical does not typically present a great health risk, but when exposed to heat, it can release toxic fumes that are harmful to breathe and cause damage to the nervous system.
Perchloroethylene (aka “Perc”): An additive that causes dizziness, fatigue and nausea if ingested or inhaled. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also claims it causes kidney and liver damage.
Naphthalene – A solvent produced from coal tar. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it is toxic to the human central nervous system and a possible carcinogen.

After our pet had an accident on our rugs we called Green Choice to remove it and the stain. The rug was off white and the stain ruined the appearance. After Green Choice was finished the stain we gone and the rug looked great. I thought we would have buy a new rug but Green Choice saved our rug for a very good price. I needed to have an Oriental rug cleaned after a few years of sitting in my living room. It was dusty and few food and drink spills on it. Given the price I paid for it, I check around for a service with good reviews and settles on Green Choice. A plus is that they also give free pick up and delivery. I got the rug back in a week and it looks great. No dirt and no stains. Great job of Oriental rug cleaning Green Choice.
