Before that the EPA asked for a recall on popular Scotch guard in 2001 or they would remove it from the market.

This product was used for more than 50 years before being recalled.

In 2003, 3M released a new Scotch guard with a different chemical make up, which the company sail was safe.

But even the new formula is labeled as a Persistent Organic Pollutant, which means that prolonged exposure to it can lead to various health problems and disorders.

Despite all these warnings by the EPA, these products are still widely used in the carpet industry.
