If your furniture has left indentations in your carpeting, or if heavily trafficed areas of your house have left your carpet pile looking jaded, there’s a simple solution: steam. Using an iron with a generous steam setting, or better yet a clothing steamer, you can remove indentations or worn areas of your carpet.

To steam furniture indentiations, simply hold the steaming iron close to the indentation (without touching the carpet) while combing the depressed fibers with a comb or brush. If this doesn’t work, your iron might not produce enough steam, making a steamer mandatory.

While removing furniture indentations is useful, we have worked wonders with this next tip: restoring the finish of worn indented carpeting caused by heavily traffic.

it is common for us to find heavy carpet wear Around doorways or in hallways. For example, in a hallway, the carpet closest to the wall will be clean, but the carpet in the middle will look depressed, worn, and particularly dirty. While most cleaning companies get rid of the dirt, they don’t remedy the depressed carpet fibers; which leaves the carpet looking old and raggedy.

So next time you clean your carpets, but the heavily trafficed areas still look bad, take a steam iron or a steamer, steam the area, and try to “lift” the carpet fiber using a broom, brush, or comb. Many professionals utilize a machine the looks like a floor buffer to restore the fiber, but a strong broom, especially a clean push broom, will make it look new again.

Just follow these steps:

Clean: Clean the carpet
Steam: Steam the carpet using an iron or steamer.
Broom: Use a push broom, against the grain of the carpet, to lift the fibers up again.
Conditioner: Once finished, a carpet conditioner will restore the finish and help the more worn out fibers match the less trafficed areas of your carpet.

It doesn’t sound like much, but the difference between a decent carpet cleaning and an amazing carpet cleaning is how well old carpet fibers can be rejuvenated.
