If your carpet gets a lipstick smear it can looks like a very tough stain to remove. But the good news is that by following a few simple steps you can remove it. First use a spoon to scrape off as much lipstick as you can. Second step is to use petroleum jelly or Vasoline. Lipstick is made from petroleum jelly so applying Vasoline to the lipstick stain will soak it up into the Vasoline. Rub in in the vasoline and then scrape it up. Keep using the Vasoline till the lipstick is gone. Afterwards you can use a gentle soap to remove the vasoline.

When you are installing a new carpet or rug it is important to buy a good rug pad for it. Even though you might think that your rug or carpet may be thick enough already, padding can help extend its life. There are many types of carpet padding available. It is important to to get the right thickness of padding for the particular types of rugs and carpets. But choosing a thinner pad does not mean less cushion. You can buy a memory foam pad. These are more expensive but they can also carry a lifetime warranty. If memory foam is too expensive you can get a less expensive foam padding. One thing you need to look for is how it handles moisture. You want to make sure it is moisture resistant. That way if you have a spill or a pet accident the moisture stays on top of the carpet or rug for easy removal. If you get pad a that soaks up moisture then mold or mildew can grow in the pad. As an added protection some pads will have a antimicrobial protection to help prevent mold and mildew.
Having a back padding to your carpet or rug will also help absorb foot traffic pounding and reduce the wear and tear. If you place your rug on a hard floor a good pad will help absorb the impact of foot traffic and lower the noise as well. The rug pad will also stick to the floor much better than the backs of many rugs. Oriental rugs may not provide a good surface to stick to a hard surface and this can cause the rug to move under pressure and cause an accident.

Everybody want to keep their carpet clean and hygiene. One of the proven method to keep carpets clean is to use a mat outside the room. It is because mat can absorb a large potion of dirt and dust from visitors shoes and prevent them from entering in to our room. So the carpet inside the room is almost safe from the dust particles. This tip is useful only if your mat has enough size to hold more foot steps of visitors. It is also important to clean mat daily to make sure that dirt particles accumulated in mat is not saturated.

If the mat we placed is full with dirt, it will provide opposite result. A saturated mat (with dirt) can increase the amount of dirt enter your room. Some studies says a properly placed mat can absorb major portion (more than 80 percent) of total dirt carried by a visitor shoes. So we cannot avoid the idea of using mat to protect our room and carpet from dust and dirt. It is wise to keep a long mat placed outside the main entrance where most users are coming in to the room.

As time passes the beauty and luxury of rugs may fade. This happens due the excess traffic that passes through your valuable rug. The stains and dirt adds further damage to your asset. Therefore a deep cleaning is always recommended occasionally in 6 months time. The rugs have the tendency to attract the dust and other micro particles from air. The amount it emits depends upon the type of the fiber the rug has got. Fibers like wool and cool attracts more dust and dead skin cells. The sand we carry with our shoes or sandals may contain sand on it that may tamper the fibers of the asset. Therefore you should remove your shoes before entering the rugged area. The cleaning methods that should be induced on your valuable rugs basically depends upon the length, quality, color and fiber of the rug. Therefore a pre-treatment is always advised before cleaning your rug. The pre-treatment is done by knowing the fiber and color used on the rug, whether there will be any color fastness or fiber loss if treated with the cleanser or methods that we use. It is recommended to check for manufacturer’s guide before cleaning your asset as it may contain the tips on how to clean the rug in an very efficient way.

Spilling coffee on your beautiful carpet can be a devastating experience. Coffee stains can leave your carpet looking old and filthy, especially if your carpet is white or ivory. Using organic cleansers to get rid of stains can help keep your carpet looking fresh and cleaned without leaving behind any toxic chemical residue or toxic odor. By using organic cleaning methods, you ensure the safety of your family, pets, and even yourself if you may be pregnant, have allergic reactions, or just don’t like the idea of inhaling any toxins. Luckily, there are ways that you can avoid long term damage of a stain as long as you know a few basic common steps about using natural organic based products that you already have in your home. Reacting to coffee spills immediately can help prevent long-term stubborn stains from setting in.

Here are a few steps to help effectively remove coffee stains from your carpet:

Blot the area with a clean white cloth or paper towel to absorb all the liquid you can. Blot from the outside of the stain in to avoid spreading the stain.

Mix one clear teaspoon of a mild organic liquid soap or detergent with one cup of lukewarm water and sponge the area with the organic soap solution. Blot again with a clean, white cloth.

Mix 1/3 cup white vinegar with 2/3 cup lukewarm water and sponge the area with the vinegar solution. Blot with a clean, white cloth.

Sponge the area with clean water. Blot with a clean, white cloth.

To dry the carpet place a clean dry sturdy paper towels over the damp spot. Place a plastic bag over them in order to avoid direct contact with the damp area.

Blotting the stain.
Additional tips and advisories:

You can mix the organic solution in a spray bottle to spray directly on the stain.

A clean white cloth ensures that dyes from the cloth won’t run into the carpet.

Avoid rubbing or scrubbing because this will cause the stain to spread.

Rubbing will push the stain deeper and possibly into the base of the carpet or even the padding. This will cause the stain to resurface eventually.

If your furniture has left indentations in your carpeting, or if heavily trafficed areas of your house have left your carpet pile looking jaded, there’s a simple solution: steam. Using an iron with a generous steam setting, or better yet a clothing steamer, you can remove indentations or worn areas of your carpet.

To steam furniture indentiations, simply hold the steaming iron close to the indentation (without touching the carpet) while combing the depressed fibers with a comb or brush. If this doesn’t work, your iron might not produce enough steam, making a steamer mandatory.

While removing furniture indentations is useful, we have worked wonders with this next tip: restoring the finish of worn indented carpeting caused by heavily traffic.

it is common for us to find heavy carpet wear Around doorways or in hallways. For example, in a hallway, the carpet closest to the wall will be clean, but the carpet in the middle will look depressed, worn, and particularly dirty. While most cleaning companies get rid of the dirt, they don’t remedy the depressed carpet fibers; which leaves the carpet looking old and raggedy.

So next time you clean your carpets, but the heavily trafficed areas still look bad, take a steam iron or a steamer, steam the area, and try to “lift” the carpet fiber using a broom, brush, or comb. Many professionals utilize a machine the looks like a floor buffer to restore the fiber, but a strong broom, especially a clean push broom, will make it look new again.

Just follow these steps:

Clean: Clean the carpet
Steam: Steam the carpet using an iron or steamer.
Broom: Use a push broom, against the grain of the carpet, to lift the fibers up again.
Conditioner: Once finished, a carpet conditioner will restore the finish and help the more worn out fibers match the less trafficed areas of your carpet.

It doesn’t sound like much, but the difference between a decent carpet cleaning and an amazing carpet cleaning is how well old carpet fibers can be rejuvenated.

Well, we finally found the time to create a new carpet cleaning blog and we couldn’t be more excited. We know that a carpet cleaning blog is probably not all that exciting to most people, but we hope to create a blog that showcases the many odd and interesting carpet cleaning tips we’ve picked up along our 20 years of cleaning. For instance, did you know that you can use shaving cream to remove wine stains? Or that cornstarch can absorb grease stains on your carpet? Well, we have hundreds of homemade tips, and we hope to help visitors that are in a hurry to remove a stain using only household products.

Why do we know that peanut butter can help remove gum from a carpet? As a green carpet cleaning company, the more simple the technique, the safer and less toxic it typically is. So we make every effort to investigate these household cleaning techniques. In fact, many of our industrial carpet cleaning solutions include common food additives, such as salt, citric acid, and enzymes.

So, while it might not be the most engaging blog in existence, we hope we can help the occasional desperate visitor who doesn’t know that hairspray is the answer to removing the ink that they just spilt on their new carpet.

Drop us a line, ask us a question, or get advice. We will try to respond any questions we find, so feel free to leave a comment below. Also, if you are looking for a carpet cleaning service, check out our company website: GreenChoice Carpet Cleaning.
